The Viron XT520 energy saving pool pump in detail…

This pump incorporates an inbuilt time clock as well as 4 time periods for each day. A different speed can be saved for each time period allowing the ultimate in flexibility. Special applications such as water features can be enabled using the time clock and speed selection for different times of the day. Alternatively, the time period can be deactivated and the pump run off the timers in the chlorinator. Each speed is easily adjustable to suit your individual equipment and needs whether it be the cleaner operation or spa jets. Set high speed to enable cleaning of your sand filter as well as vacuuming your pool. Set low speed to circulate your pool water gently – saving the greatest amount of energy.

The fact that the XT520 is fully variable offers you the opportunity to use it on larger bodies of water. You can set the priming period to run for up to 2 hours at high speed making it easy to get great circulation for the first two hours. Then the pump will default to the lower speed to finish the cycle.

Tariff 33 versus energy efficient pool pumps…

Converting to Tariff 33 can cost from $300 to $1000 depending on the age of your meter box etc. If you have a salt chlorinator it will need to have a battery backup timer or you will lose time every day not to mention have to continually reset the time. This is because the electricity provider turns off the power during peak loads. You can have a timer installed in the meter box linked to the Tariff 33 for around $150 to $200. This rate is now only 4 cents per kilowatt hour cheaper than the normal tariff. The average setup would take approximately 4 years to get ahead in savings. Rumour has it that this cheaper Tariff will be phased out within the next 10 years, which doesn’t make it a very good option to save money.
